S&P 600 Small Cap Index (SML) is a stock market index made of 600 small-size US companies. S&P 600 Index started in 1994 and is traded on New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ Stock Exchange. ^SML, .IJR, and $IQA are some of the symbols use on different data providers. S&P 600 Small Cap Index is owned and maintained by Standard & Poor's, a division of McGraw-Hill. Index values are useful for investors to track changes in market values over long periods of time.
